The Atal Pedestrian Bridge, located on the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, is a remarkable feat of architectural and engineering excellence. Inspired by the vibrant kite festival of Ahmedabad, this iconic bridge spans 300 meters with a width varying from 10 to 14 meters. It was inaugurated on August 27, 2022, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, connecting the flower garden on the west bank to the upcoming arts and culture center on the east bank.
Designed by STUP Consultants Ltd from Mumbai and constructed by P&R Infraprojects Ltd, the bridge’s unique design reflects the spirit of Uttrayan celebrations. Its steel truss structure mimics the shape of kites, with colourful fabric panels shading the walkways and steel and glass railings providing safety and aesthetics. LED lighting adds a magical touch to the bridge, illuminating it in the evening hours.
What sets the Atal Pedestrian Bridge apart is not just its engineering brilliance but also its homage to Atal Bihari Vajpayee, as it was named in his honor.
